Jeff Gottesfeld
Jeff is a writer who is also a jock. . An accomplished tennis player and skier, decent golfer, certified master fisherman (catch-and-release ase unless you're unless eating!), and canoeist, Jeff was also a member of the Teaneck High School (NJ) state championship Ultimate Frisbee team. Even now, since Cherie and Jeff live in Salt Lake City, he participates in many of these sports. Last year he ended the ski season on July 3rd at Snowbird. He especially likes skiing in powder snow over his knees..

Interested in politics and writing since he was a kid, he was born in Manhattan, attended public schools in Teaneck, NJ, Colby College in Maine (B.A.) and the University of San Francisco (CA) School of Law, where he was president of his class and a member of the law review. But he only practiced law for less than a year before realizing it was not for him - he then turned to publishing and writing as a career.

He has written freelance for numerous magazines and newspapers, and continues to publish essays on such subjects as the ongoing controversy over the Confederate flag, immigration policy, and trends in young adult fiction. Since the early 1990s, he and Cherie have collaborated on numerous page, stage, and screen writing projects.

Personally, he is the eldest boy in a family of four boys. One brother is a doctor, another a psychologist, and the youngest is a television sports executive. His active and well-traveled parents are still working -- his father is a stockbroker and his mother a psychotherapist, both in New York City. Among his favorite authors are Carson McCullers, Flannery O'Connor, Herman Wouk, and George Orwell.

He and Cherie are active members of Congregation Kol Ami, a Conservative/Reform synagogue in Salt Lake City. Their son Igor (adopted from Russia at age ten) became a bar mitzvah there on March 4, 2006; the three-year anniversary of his adoption from Russia. Jeff also sits on the executive board of the United Jewish Federation of Utah. Friday night Shabbat dinner is an institution at their home, and their favorite time to host guests of all faith traditions. Discussion is always lively!
